Used Backhoe For Sale

While you may have never given it much thought, buying used backhoes for sale over the internet is a great way to save yourself a lot of money and expand your reach. Unless you have more than one or two dealerships in your area, or a large amount of construction companies that are looking to sell off their old equipment your options may be incredibly limited. The website eBay helps you get in touch with more construction companies that can connect you with the construction equipment that you need and for the prices that you need to pay.

Purchased used construction equipment over the internet does present some potential problems that will require you to do slightly more work in order to be able to purchase them and know that you are getting what you are paying for, and that it is not going to break down on you when you are on the jobsite. You can get in contact with the owners of the equipment through eBay and ask them specific questions that you will help you determine whether or not the specific backhoe you are looking for is right for you.

Some of the questions that you are going to want to ask the owner are:

  • Is all of the safety gear included on the tractor and does it work properly?
  • What kind of shape are the tires in and will they need to be replaced?
  • How much damage is on the body or the cab of the tractor?
  • Is there any damage to the hydraulics and working systems of the tractor?
  • Is the tractor located close enough to you to be able to test drive it?

You want to make sure that you ask them about whether or not all of the safety equipment is included and in working order to make sure that you are in compliance with OSHA standards.  Items from reflectors, to the lights, horn, exhaust stacks or pipes, leveling feet and legs, and even a fire extinguisher should all be in working order to make sure that you are safe on the jobsite and are not going to have to spend more money to get the tractor into a safe working condition.

You will also need to find out what kind of shape the tires are in.  If there have not already been pictures taken of the tires and posted onto the listing page you will want to ask the seller if they are able to take closeups of the treads on the tires.  Replacing or retreading tires on a backhoe can get pretty expensive.  If the tires look like they are going to need to be replaced or retreaded you are going to want to account the cost into the price of the tractor, and either negotiate the price lower, or set a maximum amount that you are willing to bid for the tractor to take the price of the tires into consideration.

While damage on the body or cab may not be very significant, and wouldn’t usually prevent you from purchasing the backhoe, if there is a large amount in a certain area you are going to want to dig deeper before you place a bid on the tractor.  Large amounts of damage could be tell-tale signs that something worse has happened to the tractor, which could have damaged interior workings, systems, or parts that could need to be replaced.
